How to Get up Early?

Getting up early has always been a difficult thing for me. I am by far a night owl, between 11pm and 2am is when I feel most productive and on a day that I don't need to be up early you can usually find me tidying my room at this time. However even if I go to bed early, hoping to get up early, it rarely works. So I have taken to the internet to find different ways to help me and you get up earlier. Not all of them will work for you as we all have different preferences but hopefully one or two will.

Plan an exciting and yummy breakfast | This will give you something to jump out of bed for.

Drink water before bed | This may sound silly but it will help you feel rejuvinated when you wake up, also it's a great way to help get rid of any pesky headaches.

Create a to do list for the morning | This will prevent any late night anxietys, by putting it on the to do list it will save you from either forgetting or letting it play on your mind and keep you up.

Turn off your phone | This is self explainatory, if you have no phone you are less likely to surf the web in the morning.

Revision Tips

Exams are just around the corner and if you are the unlucky few you may have already started some. It is easy to feel the pressure when preparing for exams, they are a very stressful time in every body's life as you always want to do well for both you and the ones around you. But the good thing is there is no better time to start revising then the present.

Before I begin to give you a few tips to revise I want to make it clear that there are three very important things to consider that will help your final mark a lot more than any revision; is to attend your classes, even if you really don't want to or are feeling slightly ill as this is where you are going to be told everything you need to know and get the most time to learn what you need to know. Which leads me on to the second thing that will help guarantee that you at least pass is to pay attention to the things you get told both about the subject and the exam. This will guarantee you know the basics about the things you need to know on the big day. The third is to take notes, in whatever way you find is most useful.

1 | Get plenty of sleep
I know when your trying to revise and fit in a social life, school and possibly a part time job it can be very difficult to both study and sleep. But the most important thing is especially before the big day. As sleep will give your body enough time to recover and process all the revision you have done throughout the day. Also the last thing you need is to fall asleep during the exam or to over sleep and miss the exam.

2 | Create a check list of everything you need to study
It may seem an easy thing to do but it helps you to get organised and make sure you're not missing out anything you need to study. It is easy to forget the some sections especially when you're under pressure. So by making a check list, it will ensure you have a basic guideline. This is also a great technique for those of you who aren't the biggest fan of study timetables.

3 | Take regular breaks
I can not stress this enough! When you are revising make sure you take frequent breaks whether that's just going to get a drink or watching an episode or video on YouTube. Breaks help to keep the information you are revising to stay in as if you overload more often than not only half the information goes in. So take a step back and it may even help to relieve the stress.

If you would like another post on actual ways to revise leave a comment below. Exams will always be stressful no matter how long they are, so make sure you put your health before anything else as if you're not feeling your best, you're not going to do your best. Good luck!

Saying Goodbye to Another Year

For those of you who don't know, it has recently been my birthday, which means I am one year older in the world of adulthood. The more I think about this, the more daunting it becomes. Instead of doing a post about what I got for my birthday, I've decided to talk to you a bit about what the past year of my life has been like. As it hasn't been the best year of my life but it has definitely been one that I have learnt many lessons and have had many different experiences. All the things from the past year has helped me to become who I am today (as cheesy as that sounds).

In the past year of my life I went to many different festivals, concerts and gigs with friends and shared many memories. By spending time with new people and going to different places I have developed more confidence, I'm still fairly shy but I'm much more happier to go to new places alone. I find a strange sense of being at peace with oneself and can think about things more clearly whilst travelling, whether that's a short bus journey or a three hour train journey, I feel a sense of solitude. In the previous year of my life I never thought I could ever say that, but now travelling has become a big passion of mine, along with other hobbies such as driving, horse riding, art and writing.

This past year I have also developed a close relationship with certain friends and most importantly my family, which is something I cherish deeply. I have learnt how empowering it can be to surround yourself with the right people who bring out the best in you. It is surprising but the less friends you have can sometimes be better in the long run. Also I have found that some friends you don't always have to speak to all of the time, but now again they can still be more loyal than someone you speak to everyday as they tend to cherish your friendship more.

The next year of my life is going to be fairly difficult but it's also going to be exciting with lots of new experiences. Hopefully this year I will move out and look into purchasing a big new thing that will give me a lot more independence and freedom. I still hope to continue doing a few things that I am currently doing for example continue volunteering at a few of the places I already do and continue surrounding myself with lots of beautiful and extraordinary people.

Jewellery for Africa

Compared to other posts you would tend to find on here, this isn't your so called "typical" blog post from me. But it is something that I feel fairly passionate about. Therefore I have decided to let you know a little bit of information about something I have been doing recently. I guess you could say it has been a little enterprise project.

Each year at my sixth form come together to try to raise money. We do this by thinking of creative and unique ways in order to create as much money as we can. Some people hold small gaming events, others sell cakes and I make jewellery. I have always considered myself to be fairly creative, so this is somewhat like a small outlet for me to express that.

Our sixth form has a strong connection with a school over in the out backs of Kenya. Unfortunately due to poverty they can't always raise enough money in order to go to school. A year of education for the potential students would be equivalent to £100 in the UK. Because my place of study feels strongly about making sure everyone receives an equal amount of education, we aim to send at least ten children of all ages to go to school each year. We aim to keep this up every year, so we don't let the students, that we have already funded, down. Any money that has been left over we put towards school supplies such as pens and paper. We also send across sanitary towels to ensure that young girls don't miss any school and get an equal amount of education.

There are many reasons these students can't get the money to get to school, the main reason is that they have lost their parents or close family members due to illnesses such as aids or malaria. Sadly one of the students that we had been funding for the past three years passed away due aids. This was heart breaking for everyone to hear, but lucky we received a letter from here soon after explaining how thankful he was for the support we have given him in order to have an education.

I feel like sometimes we can get caught up with our own lives and our own problems that we forget about the other tragedy's that go on every day in other places on this football we call planet earth. Sometimes I think it is good to take a step back to help support someone else in need and give something back to the world.

How to Stay Organised?

I like to think of myself as being a fairly organised person. However at the moment I feel like I'm losing that a little bit, so I have decided to go back to my good old ways and pick up a few techniques that I used to do. In this process I thought what better than to tell you about the techniques that I use in order to stay organised.

Technique 1

Keep a diary. I can't stress this enough, I have got to a stage in my life when if I see a person who doesn't document what they've got going on I become very anxious for them. Even if it's on your phone just document the things you've got going on and keep it on you so that you can't double book anything. I keep everything I have to do in the diary above which was a Christmas present. In there I like to colour code things, for example if I have a day off I will highlight the day in green, if there's an important date for whatever reason I highlight it in yellow. I also keep a document of all my work I am set from sixth form. This helps to ensure that I never fall behind on work.

Technique 2

This is very similar as technique one but I like to do this so that I can see what I need to do from a glance. It is to keep a calendar and if you choose to keep one make sure it is in a place that you regularly are. I don't go as in depth with my calendar as I do with my diary. I like to just keep the places I'm meant to be and the important dates on the calender whether that's an exam or holiday. It's a great way to count down the days.

Technique 3

This is by no means the last way that I keep organised but it is something that I have picked up recently. It is too keep a notebook preferably a divided one in order to keep your notes more separated. I like to think of it as my own version of a bullet journal. It's a place where I like to keep track of where my money is going along with future blog posts and goals for each month. It's basically a little place to keep on top of the things that you may let get not so organised by accident.

February Favourites | 2016

It's here again! Last years February monthly favourites is still till this day one of the most visited blog posts from Elegant Anchors. I did in fact post this yesterday, however I wasn't to pleased with how it looked. Therefore I have re-written it in some places in order to make sure I'm proud of the content. Also a quick little message... it's my birthday today!!

NIVEA | Pearl and Beauty

I have used the Nivea black and white for the past year. However it wasn't doing the things that I would like in a antiperspirant. So I decided to pick up another one to give it a try. I saw this one on the shelf and it was cheap and cheerful. Since using this product I have noticed a huge change in my skin, the ingredients in this deodorant makes your skin feel surprisingly soft too.

PALMER'S | Daily Skin Therapy

In my eyes everyone should give this a try if they have stretch marks or scars. Unfortunately I have a few of these. I have not yet managed to test out the well known Bio-Oil yet, but as this was cheaper and I had already heard good reviews I thought I'd give it a go. Oh my! I love it. Since using this my scares and stretch marks have toned down a lot, even to the point that I can barely see them any more. I began using this in January but have decided to make it into my routine. It may sound a little weird, but I also use this on my feet and then put some socks on and it works far more better than any feet moisturisers I have used before. I began testing this product out from a travel sized bottle to see whether it was worth a big bottle. As soon as I finished the small bottle I ran to the shops to get a normal sized one. Another great thing about this is that you only need a little bit of it for it to be able to work which means you get your money worth.

LOUISE PENTLAND | Life with a sprinkle of glitter

The book I have been reading on the side this month is Life with a sprinkle of glitter by Louise Pentland (also known as Sprinkle of Glitter). Sometimes I find that I don't always want to sit down and read a story, I would much prefer to pick up an easy read. This book is just that. I know I'm a little late on the band wagon with this book, but I have only just realised the positivity and happiness that this book brings. It's full with many things like pampering, baking, crafts, surviving education, dating and being kind. It's just a lovely book to read it's also fairly small so it can easily be put in a bag for those bus journey or outing reads.

Hair Clip

This may seem like a weird favourite but it's the hair clip that is attached to this book. You can purchase these from a few places for a fairly cheap price. I have been using these ones for years now and have never really gave them any credit they always seem to be just there. However these are great for just keeping in your bag or around your home just to keep your hair out of your face. In my opinion if it's to quickly keep you hair out of your face, it can sometimes be better than a hair band as it doesn't create a crease in your hair.

This month I have been binge watching the series called Fresh Meat. It is a show about Enlgish students at university and how they live their lives. I love this programme, I don't know whether you can get it in any other countries but it's available in the UK on channel four on demand or (for the new series) channel four at 10pm on Mondays. It's just an easy watch and funny at the same  time.

LONDON GRAMMAR | Darling are you Gonna Leave me

My favourite song from February is one of the best songs I have heard from London Grammar. I have always been a big fan of London Grammar's music and as I was listening to them I came across this live performance and fell in love with it.   The song is just so peaceful and reminds me of a summers evening either on a beach or at a festival just chilling out.

Dear February...

Dear February,

You haven't been the easiest of months. However you have withheld a lot of new found experiences and potential activities for the future. During this month I have travelled to see family, went to a few meetings and have also had a mock exam that due to the decision I made earlier on this year has become a fairly big deal to me.

It has been a month that has been quite stressful and unsettling. Which normally seems like a terrible thing, but it surprisingly hasn't been. It has encouraged me to open my eyes and appreciate the support and loving people I have around me, as well as to get my life a little more organised.

I'm not in the best of places at the moment but by the time it's the end of next month that would be sorted out either for the best or the worse. Either way I would be in a much more stable place in my life than I am in now. In all honesty that's what is keeping me going, looking up at all the amazing experiences that are waiting for me in the present and near future.

Throughout this month I have stumbled across a quote that has really inspired me, so February I will leave you with this... "I'm the hero of this story, I don't need saving".
