Blog Improvements 2016

After taking a break from blogging for a couple of days I have decided to get back on the band waggon and start blogging again. If you have followed my from my old blog "Nikkita0703" you will know at the end of every year I do I overview of my blog posts of the year and what were most popular and how I can improve for the new year.

This year my most popular posts were February Favourites, Our Christmas Tree and The Meaning of Christmas

In 2016 my main goal is to only publish things that I feel 100% confident with as if I don't I feel like I am not living up to my potential. For example during my blogmas series near the end I was publishing things just so I could get one a day out and even though I was still enjoying it I didn't feel like I was doing my best. Therefore during 2016 I am going to only make content about things I like and publish them if I feel 100% happy and pleased with the end result.

Throughout my blogging experience I have always created one post on a Sunday. However in 2016 I am hoping to create another one during the week too as this will help me stay alert with my blog posts and be able to create unique content on a regular basis.

Have you got a blog? What are you hoping to improve in the new year?

A Short Winter Tag

As I haven't had a lot of time to write a post today and it would be a shame to end it here so I have decided to do a couple of questions of the Winter Tag.

Favourite winter nail polish?
Anything red, I love red nails. However I am wearing a light blue colour at the moment which looks a little like snow.

Have you ever made a snowman?
Yes multiple, I can remember when I was younger and used to make snowmen but they used to be small. But then my dog used to come and wee on it so then it wasn't such a wonderful memory, aha.

Does it snow where you live?
Very rarely, I would probably say in the UK it would be once every two years. However it rains almost every other day during the winter.

Hot coco or apple cider?
I would say hot chocolate defiantly with cream and marshmallows.

Favourite winter accessory?
Since this year it is a big chunky scarf as they count as both a blanket and scarf. Which are great for cold lessons.

Top 2 winter essentials?
This is a tricky one but I would say lip balm and hand moisturiser as the colder months mean you need to stay hydrated both inside and out.

Leave a link to your winter tags in the comments and I'll be sure to check them out.

A Day In My Life | Christmas Edition

For me every day of my life is different. Even if I plan something to do it never tends to end up that way, one thing or another tends to pop up and manages to change things. But today I am have a plan of what I'm doing and have done so I thought I'd share it with you as it is slightly more festive than an average day.

Today began at 6 'o' clock for me today. I got up grabbed some breakfast and a cup of tea and quickly got dressed and ran out the door to get to work.

I then finished earlier than normal around 12ish and got home to chill out for a while. Which is what I am doing now. Then I have to head on out again in the windy cold world to go to a meeting before catching the bus to my friends house to see a few friends for a festive get together.

After that I will probably end up catching the bus home around 8/9pm, as I have work in the morning. Then I will grab a cup of tea and catch up on Vlogmas's, before heading to bed.

What do you get up to on a typical day in December?

The Christmas Tag

1 | What is your favourite Christmas Movie?
Elf, Made in Manhattan or While you were sleeping.

2 | Do you open your presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning?
Definitely Christmas morning straight after breakfast.

3 | Do you have a favourite Christmas memory?
Probably last year when I went down to my Aunties house for Christmas. That was definitely my best Christmas.

4 | Favourite festive food?
Even though you may not see this as being festive it's a good old Roast Dinner.

5 | Favourite Christmas scent?
This is tricky, it'll probably have to be anything berry. That tends to always remind me of Christmas time.

6 | Do you have any Christmas Eve traditions?
For the past couple of years I have worked on Christmas Eve, so I guess that has become some what of a tradition. But when I was younger I used to watch EastEnders and then sprinkle some reindeer food outside my house for Santa before running up the stairs with excitement for Christmas Day.

7 | What tops your tree?
Normally either a fairy or star but this year it is a unique tree topper of two bells.

8 | As a kid what was the one (crazy, wild, extravagant) gift you always asked for but never received?
Every year for Christmas and I still do every year now. I ask for a puppy, even though I used to have a dog over the Christmas period I still wanted another dog for my dog to play with and a puppy I could call my own. I wanted it to be put in a box with a little bow collar and then jump out at me a bit like in Lady and the Tramp and until I get a dog I can call my own, I think that will live on.

9 | What's the best part about Christmas for you?
There's two parts but they are both related, the first part is giving presents to the ones I love and the second is spending time with family and friends, there is nothing better than being around the ones you cherish at Christmas. Especially for my Christmas is the one time of the year at some point I would see my family which I can't see that often which to me itself is a Christmas gift.

Leave links below if you've done the Christmas Tag so I can check them out.

Places to go at Christmas Time

There are always things to do and places to go at Christmas. Sometimes it is just a lovely thing to do with friends and family in order to spend a bit of quality time with them. It’s even a nice idea to do with those friends you haven’t seen in a long while. So if you’re feeling festive and want to explore your local town whilst doing festive things, here are a few ideas…

1 | Christmas Market

2 | Ice-skating

3 | Christmas Meal or Drinks

Where do you like to go over the festive season?

Anxiety at Christmas

I think it’s safe to say that this time of year comes with many different reasons to be anxious. For example maybe you haven’t got all of your Christmas presents yet or maybe you’re not going to have a Christmas like you normally have. This is normal to be feeling anxious for these reasons and many more. But you should not have to deal with it without doing anything to try and help; therefore I have found a few ways for you to relax and try to manage your anxiety this festive season.

1 | Pamper evening – This is a simple way to rejuvenate yourself and maybe your self-esteem to which could prevent your anxiety from taking over. If you’re lucky enough to have a bath in your home this is perfect as you can relax and chill out with no distractions from anyone, but if you don’t and you have a shower you can still relax and maybe wear a face mask.

2 | Festive films and books – This is a great way in order to take your mind off of everyday worries. It’s a simple way to get lost in another world for an hour or two. Light a candle, get a hot beverage and snuggle up and get lost in another world, it’s always a great way to help you come back to reality having taken a well-deserved break.

3 | Colouring in book – This time of year there are many festive books out there for you to colour in. There are some fairly cheap ones that have pictures of Santa and other festive objects for you to colour or there is also the mindfulness collection which has a Christmas edition book out. Personally I love the mindfulness collection as they are especially made for adults in order to take create a more mindful state.

What do you do to relieve anxiety or stress this festive season?

Christmas Meal

Tonight's post is later than usual as I have just came home from my Christmas meal with my two friends Lois and Abbey. We went to an all you can eat restaurant called ZaZa Bazaar and we all definitely ate all we could eat, so much so that after we went for a lovely little stroll around the city. Unfortunately these photos are little bit blury as I didn't manage to use my camera so I had to use my phone instead and I also tried to sneakily take them.

Have you had a Christmas meal this year?

Our Christmas Tree

I have just finished decorating the Christmas Tree so I have decided to show you a few snippets of the final result. I love looking at different peoples trees as I feel like it can in a way represent their personality. For example every tree is different just like people, no matter how much you try to copy another persons it will never look exactly the same. Therefore I think Christmas trees are a great way to express your creativity.

What's your opinion of my Christmas tree?

The Meaning of Christmas

With Christmas only nine days away I have decided to do a bit of research into the origin of Christmas. Because with society now days we see Christmas for the adverts and shops trying to promote gifts to consumers. For example Santa used to be dressed in green before Coca-Cola began to advertise there products using him which made his outfit turn red to match the brand. Sometimes I think it's interesting to look at the history of how it came about. So without further a do this is what I have found.

Christmas is a Christian holiday which celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. It is has multiple names such as Yule, Nativity, Noel and Xmas. The word originated from the term "Christ's mass" which soon became Christmas during the middle English period. Also the Anglo-Saxons referred to Christmas as midwinter during their time in power.

The original reason that Christmas remains on the 25th of December is thought to be because it is the date in which Rome celebrated another festivity called Dies Natalis Solis Invicti which means the birthday of the unconquered Sun.

However from this title it does state the meaning of Christmas so I believe that it's only fair for me to put a little bit about what I think the meaning of Christmas should be. For me the meaning of Christmas it to just simply spend time with family and friends and to show them how much you appreciate them. It's a time to come together and in way celebrate each other.

What's the meaning of Christmas to you?

Christmas Traditions

Christmas is probably the most traditional time of the year. Every family or person has their own little traditions that they like to stick by. Most of the time these are passed down through generations however sometimes we tweak them a little bit in order to suit us as we grow up.

One tradition that might not sound like a tradition is Christmas tree's. Every year for as long as I can remember I have always put up a Christmas tree. As I have grown older we go out to a nearby Christmas tree sale and choose the most suitable tree for us out of all the lovely trees in which they have to sell. This year we have a tree and we have lights but we don't have any baubles so that's the plan for this evening.

Another is Christmas crackers, there is nothing better then a good Christmas cracker on Christmas Day. Even though the jokes are not always that funny, it's always happened every year within my family and it's something that I think can make a Christmas perfect. Crossing hands with the loved ones next to you  on the Christmas table and counting down the time in which you all pull your crackers, makes the Christmas meal complete.

Which brings me swiftly on to Christmas dinner. For those of you in the UK this is more likely a festive edition of a roast dinner. With potatoes, meat, gravy and much more it is a meal that I can surely say that everyone looks forward to each year.

Last but certainly not least has got to be spending time with family and friends. Since last year I have realised how much family and a close knit of friends actually mean and how making sure you have the right people in your life to support you through your ups and downs throughout life. Which after last year is what made my Christmas so amazing was the time spent with my small but amazing family and close friends. So I think it is a fairly important and fairly new tradition of mine is to spend as much time this festive seasons with the ones you love in order to show them how much they mean to you.

What are your Christmas Traditions?

Luxury Gift Ideas

After two more presents I will have completely finished getting my Christmas presents this year. I love giving people presents it is such an exciting thing to do. Personally I prefer it more than receiving as I love to watch the persons face when they open it, whether they liked it or not. Knowing that you are giving something to someone makes me feel like I'm giving them something back from what they have given me over the year and showing them how thankful I am to have them in my life. Sometimes it nice to get those closest to you a more special gift.

1 | Designer gift set - You can never go wrong with a gift set and if you get a designer set this will show you've put extra time and money into your present which will make them feel special. Especially because not ever can afford quality products throughout the year.

2 | Fragrance - Everyone wants fragrance but sometimes people can't afford it throughout the year so they stick to deodorant. However with a fragrance you've spent a bit of extra time to get the right one for them.

3 | Something they've been mentioning for a while - This seems simple but if you listen to what they mention they want throughout the year if you can afford to get it for them they will be so amazed that you didn't only listen to them but you also went out your way to get it for them.

What's your luxury gift ideas? Leave them in the comments to help others out

Secret Santa Gift Ideas

Secret Santa holds a mystery. This year I have participated in two secret Santa's. One is within my group of friends and another within my work place. I love secret Santa and finding out who you've got. However sometimes this can be very challenging. For me last year I again had a secret Santa at my work place but I was fairly new so I didn't know people to well. I can remember being given someone who I didn't even normally work with and had to find something she liked without knowing what her interests were. However now I like to say that I have some sort of skill within this territory and would like to give a little bit of help to you or maybe some inspiration. Normally with Secret Santa there is a budget of £5 or maybe £10. So these gifts are also for anyone who would like to get some stocking fillers or small gifts for friends.

1 | Mug or cup - This is a great gift and to make it a little more special or unique you could a few things inside, like maybe some chocolate coins, some tea light candles or maybe even some tea bags for that loved one who loves to drink tea.

2 | Candle - for that person who loves candles maybe invest in a medium to large size candle for them to light.

3 | Book or DVD - This is great if you're not to sure on what to get somebody because you could get them a few books or DVD from a pound store, so they have a selection.

4 | Gift set - You can never go wrong with the good old gift set, go with the classic lynx for a man or maybe a dove set for women.

5 | Hot water bottle - This sounds very strange, but there are also many festive ones out at the moment for a great quality whilst on a budget. These are great for people who live in colder areas or somewhere in the UK. As it will keep them nice and toasty whether their in bed or watching TV, they will thank you for it later.

Have you got any suggestions? Leave them in the comments to help others out.

If you are a reading this at the moment, it is probably a fact that you are a fan of blogs, which could also mean you are a fan of YouTube. With this time of year YouTube tends to mean Vlogmas! For those of you who don't know what vlogmas is, it is a vlog of each day from the first of December up to Christmas Day. This is a great way to get into the festive mood whilst seeing what people get up to in their daily lives. Therefore I have put together my three favourite Vlogmas's this year for you to check out if you haven't yet.

Christmas music - it's a bit like Marmite you either love it or hate it! Me being the huge music fan I am, I love Christmas songs I find it is such a great way to getting in the festive mood and feel ready for the big day. It's great to listen to whether you're decorating your home, wrapping presents or even on the bus to work or school. So I have gathered three Christmas songs that I like to call some of my favourites.

Santa Tell Me - Ariana Grande

Santa Claus Is Coming To Town - Michael Buble

Do They Know It's Christmas? - Band Aid 30

Manicure Monday

This year I decided to go and a manicure in order to give myself a little treat. Originally I was going to go for a red shade as at this time of year, I am always wearing red nails. I think it is such a festive colour. However some people do believe that red nail polish is likely to chip easily which tends to put people off. But I personally find that if it is applied properly it lasts just as much as any other colour you wish to put on your nails.

After discussing what colour to go on my nails, the lady asked me whether I wanted glitter. Normally glitter is right out of my comfort zone, when it comes to nails I am much more happier sticking with basic simple colours. However for some reason I said she could choose. She then carried on and applied it on top and I was shocked with how much I loved the glitter on top as it gives it much more of a festive feel.

What colours do you like to wear coming up to Christmas?

Christmas Quotes

Something I love all year round, is quotes. I am a huge lover of quotes and they are all over my house. So in order to make it festive, I have taken to Tumblr to pick out a few of my favourite Christmas quotes. For all my fellow quote lovers I hope you like this post.

"Christmas is not so much opening presents but opening our hearts."

"Enjoy Christmas it only happens once a year!"

"Peace, Love, Happiness - It's all you need for this Christmas."

"Christmas waves a magic wand over the world and behold , everything is softer and more beautiful."

"You are the best Christmas gift!"

"Maybe Christmas doesn't come from a store, maybe Christmas means a little bit more."

"Christmas is a togethery and remembery sort of holiday."

What are your favourite festive quotes?

Three Things Too Be Thankful For This Season

Christmas is a great time for many things. Things that we get so lost in work or getting presents that we forget about the most important things this season. Sometimes we may even feel a little low, but if you are that person I am hoping that this helps your think of things that you can be thankful for.

1 | A roof over your head and food on your table – Yes, this is a very traditional phrase! But it is very true. If you didn't have either of these things, I highly doubt that you’ll be able to read this let alone get to a place that has internet in order to do so. I know it is said every year but there are many people out there that are not going to have a roof over their head and may not even have that Christmas meal you have been looking forward to all year. By cherishing the little things, you can really understand just how lucky you are.

2 | Family and friends – I cannot stress this enough, if you are lucky enough to be spending time with your loved ones this Christmas or maybe even be able to give them a call to say “Merry Christmas!”, you defiantly have something to be thankful for. My loved ones have definitely decreased since last year, but that defiantly makes no difference, because at the end of the day I am going to be spending Christmas with the most amazing family, and I could not ask for anyone better.

3 | Presents – Whether that’s giving or receiving either way, by giving your loved ones a present it can really help you to feel good about yourself. Maybe that’s even just spending some quality time with them; it can mean all the difference. As that is what Christmas is about, spending times with the ones you love.

Festive Present Wrapping | On a Budget

With Christmas presents on peoples mind, it is sometimes hard to wrap them to look beautiful whilst being on a budget. However every year, I wrap my presents in the same way (normally with brown paper) and get a fair amount of compliments on the wrapping. I am by no means the best at wrapping presents, as I've seen many others wrap to a far more better quality than mine. But I thought it may help to give you a few ideas on how to wrap your presents this festive season.

Christmas Movies

There’s nothing better than spending an evening at home snuggled up nice and warm with a hot chocolate (or a hot beverage or your choice) watching Christmas movies. I know what some of you may be thinking… Christmas movies already, it’s only the second of December. But with so many Christmas movies out there to watch, you've got to start somewhere.

A good old classic Christmas movie is “Home Alone” I can remember when I was younger on the Sunday’s leading up to the big day, and how I would sit with my family watching this classic. However when I was younger I did used to get a little scared of the two men that come after him. But as I got older I used to think how cool he was to cope with all the things that they do, and how amazing his traps were and how I wanted to make traps just like them.

The second film is a more grown up film which is “Love Actually” I haven’t watched this film in a few years. But I know I definitely will be this year, as I managed to pick a copy of it up the other day. This film again is a classic, with so many stories combined into one it will leave you at the edge of your seat and feeling very festive.

The last but certainly not least has got to be “Made in Manhattan” this is definitely near the top of my list for Christmas movies. However it is more based around this time of year compared to a Christmas film. But nevertheless it is a great film a fairly old film now but still a very good romantic story, to get you feeling to love at Christmas.

Another film I watch every year without fail is “Elf”. I truly and deeply love this film. I love the quirkiness and just how it is all put together. I doubt you haven’t seen it but just in case, it is a story about an “elf” who doesn't quite know how to live in the real world, goes on a journey to find his Dad. It’s so simple but so festive at the same time.

The last on my list is a film that gets to me every time, it makes me sad and happy all at the same time. It is “Grinch” I can remember when I saw it for the first time when I was around my friend’s house when I was little and I was amazed at the city they lived in and how festive it was. It is always a film that gets me feeling festive.

Three Pencil Challenge | Christmas Edition

Before we begin I would like to say I am no professional when it comes to art, it is just something I enjoy to do. As soon as I saw this challenge I really wanted to give it a go, it looked like so much fun and real challenge at the same time. I thought I'd draw a snowman in order to make it a little more Christmas themed to go along with this month.

You begin by selecting a maximum of three colours in which are the only colours you can use throughout the whole picture. I selected mine out, however some people who want more of a challenge tend to pick at random. In the end I selected a light blue, brown and a dark green.

I began by using the darkest colour which was the brown, this was to add any necessary shading I may have wanted and to help me get a more clear understanding on the sections that I need to complete and what colours I could use for them.

I then added the dark green, I used this on the scarf and to shade the trees to try to represent the shadow that the sun leaves on them. I then went on to add the light blue in order to create definition within the snow and the tops of the silhouette buildings.

Ta da! As you can see below is the finished result. I went back over it with the other two colours just to correct any places and add to anything I've missed. Bearing in mind, this is only a doodle, I am fairly pleased with how it has turned out, it doesn't look to bad.

What do you think of my Snowman? Have you done the Three Pencil/Marker Challenge yet?

It Has Begun...

As the festive season is nearly upon us, I have decided to attempt to do a blog post per day, to help get you in the festive spirit. Each blog post will be a festive blog post and I may even throw in a few vlogmas style posts if I do anything particularly festive that day.

Ever since I have started blogging (which is a good three to four years if you include my old blog) I have always wanted to do something like this, where I do a blog post each day for a long period of time. I recently thought of maybe doing a blog post every day of October. But I decided to leave it till now where I would have lots of interesting, exciting and festive things to talk about.

As today is the first of December I am still up for suggestions of different blog posts you would like to read, whether that’s a DIY or a Day in the Life. You can either let me know what you would like to see by leaving a message in the comments or you can send me a message via twitter.

Happy December!

Three Simple Ways To Relax

We all have those days when we are too busy or live one of those lifestyles in which it feels like we are just another robot on a conveyor belt that we call life. However there will always be ways that you can snap back to reality and appreciate the fact that you are actually a human being.

1 | Smell a bunch or flowers or a jar of tea. By smelling something nice we can often found ourselves immediately back to life.

2 | Appreciate the things around you or cherish the things that you are grateful. Whether you're walking or on public transport or even driving somewhere. You can always appreciate the things around you whether it's that tree that stands alone its branches dancing with the wind or that you a have family no matter how big or small, blood or not standing around you to help you on this journey.

3 | Breathe. Simple as that. Take one big deep breath and suddenly you'll feel your shoulders drop and you feel much more able to cope with the worlds challenges.

Dear Future Self...

The next year holds a lot for me both personally and academically. I have not the slightest clue of where I will be this time next year. I could either end up in university with a job or even somewhere else. You never know what the future holds, therefore you can never be fully prepared. I always find if I hold high expectations or plan my future it never goes how I plan. Which encourages me to keep my options open and to do the best I can possibly do at the time.

I don't know where I will be in a years time which encouraged me to do this post, so in a years time I can look back and maybe answer a few of the questions that I have to myself...

Have you done any travelling?

How are your family?

Did you get into to uni?

Do you have a job?

Are you still in contact with your current friends (I hope you are)?

It is nerve racking to think about what the future holds. But sometimes it is good to set yourself personal goals that isn't affected by those around you but that you have put together, personally for yourself. One of my personal goals is to stay optimistic no matter what and to work hard despite how hard life may get.

Do you have any questions for your future self in a years time? Be sure to comment your answers.
